Alstom signs Fujairah 2 maintenance contract

06 August 2008
France’s Alstom has signed a long-term contract for the maintenance of the Fujairah 2 independent water and power project with Fujairah Asia Power Company (Fapco).

Under the 16-year contract, Alstom will provide spare parts and maintenance services for the plant’s five Alstom gas turbines.

Alstom won the engineering, procurement and construction contract in August 2007.

The 2,000MW, 130 million-gallon-a-day plant is due to begin commercial operation in April 2010. Some of the capacity from the plant will go towards meeting demand in the northern emirates.

Fapco is a joint venture of Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority, the UK’s International Power (IP) and Japan’s Marubeni Corporation.

IP and Marubeni are the developers on the project.
