Alutec enters Abu Dhabi aluminium market

07 February 2008
Qatar’s Aluminium Auxiliary Technologies (Alutec) is to enter the UAE’s aluminium market, with two new ventures in Abu Dhabi.

In the larger of the two, Alutec will build a $117m aluminium rolling mill which will produce foil and sheet aluminium. The tender for the construction of the facility is expected to be issued in August, although the plant’s production capacity has yet to be decided.

“We are in the decision-making stage,” says Thampi Narayananan, Alutec’s managing director.

Further details of the rolling mill are expected be announced later this month.

Alutec’s second venture is an aluminium and glass processing factory. Construction of the $29m facility is expected to be completed by early 2009. It is being built on an 80,000-square-metre plot in Industrial City Abu Dhabi, at Mussafah.
