
UK firm Amec will provide engineering and management services for Kuwait refineries
UK engineering firm Amec has been awarded a KD72m ($254m) contract to provide project engineering and management services for state-refiner, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).
The five-year contract covers services for Kuwaits three refineries; Mina al-Ahmadi, Mina Abdullah and Shuaiba refineries, and has an option for a one-year extension, according to a 6 December company statement.
Amec, which has held the contract since 2007 is responsible for providing engineering and management services including feasibility studies, front-end engineering design (feed) and project management consultancy services, and training of Kuwaiti engineers.
The contract also involves studies and designs for KNPCs local marketing and projects department on a call-off basis for its in-country petroleum storage and transportation facilities.
Amec was awarded a six-year contract in December 2012 for the management of KNPCs fourth refinery project at Al-Zour in the south of the country.
