Federal authority awards Al-Zawra water contract
Austria’s Aqua Engineering has won a contract to build a 7-million-gallon-a-day (g/d) desalination plant at Al-Zawra in Ajman.
The company will also relocate an existing 3 million g/d plant from Al-Qidhfa in Fujairah to Al-Zawra. Both plants will use reverse osmosis technology.
Aqua was the second-lowest bidder for the contract in June with a price of AED172.3m ($46.9m). A team of Spain’s Cadagua and the Ajman-based Essa Engineering & Marine Services was the low bidder at AED169.8m.
The UK’s Acwa and the US’ Aquatech has also bid.
The client, the Federal Electricity & Water Authority, is due to issue tenders for two more reverse osmosis desalination projects soon. One will be located at Ras al-Khaimah and the other at Al-Zawra.
