Contractor to complete work on 224MW project by June
The local Arabian Bemco Contracting Company has signed a SR1.08bn ($289m) contract for the expansion of the Al-Qassim power plant.
Saudi Electricity Company is the client.
Arabian Bemco will add four gas turbines with a total capacity of 224MW to the plant. The company is due to complete the fast track project by June 2010.
The company has previous experience with such projects. In 2004, it completed work on 480MW the PP9 Block E power plant project in seven and a half months.
The latest contract award follows the signing of a $1.8bn deal for the conversion of the Qurayyah power plant in October 2009.
A consortium of Arabian Bemco and South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction will convert the simple cycle power plant to a combined cycle configuration by adding five steam turbines. This will increase the capacity of the plant by 1,300MW.
