Saudi Arabia’s first facility for the fabrication of offshore oil production platforms has been competed and construction has begun on four new platforms at the facility.
The Star facility, at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, is capable of processing 14,000 metric tonnes of steel per year and will create 900 jobs.
According to a statement on 28 January from Saudi Aramco, the client, the facility was completed inside a little over one year.
The project is part of a long term agreement between Aramco, Snamprogetti Saudi Arabia, a subsidiary of Itay’s Snamprogetti, and the Star consortium.
The Star consortium includes Italy’s Saipem and two Saudi firms, Taqa and Al-Rushaid.
