Saudi Aramco has invited 20 companies to submit bids by 7 June for $300m worth of contracts to expand 13 bulk plants that serve as oil distribution points across the kingdom.
The lump-sum procure-and-build contracts cover the Qatif and Hasa bulk plants in the Eastern Province, the Qasim and Sulayyil plants in the Central Region; the Abha, Rabigh, Jizan and Yanbu bulk plants in the southwest; and the Duba, Jouf, Tabuk and Turaif plants in the northwest.
Prequalified firms include Turkey's Tekfen; Italy's Snamprogetti; South Korea's SK Engineering & Construction and ISU Engineering; Argentina's Techint; France's Technip; Spain's TR; the UK's Petrofac; Japan's JGC Corporation and Chiyoda Corporation; India's Dayim Punj Lloyd; the local MR Al-Khatlan Group, Etec Arabia, Mohammed al-Mojil Group, MS Al-Suwaidi and Nesma Group; UK-based SA Kentz; China's Sinopec; Singapore's Rotary Engineering and Egypt's Enppi.
The scope of the contracts includes the installation of diesel and gasoline storage tanks, transfer and shipping pumps and related civils works, as well as structural, piping, electrical and instrumentation works.
They also entail the upgrading of existing wastewater systems and the replacement of tank seals. The work will increase the gasoline, diesel and fuel oil storage capacities of the plants.
In March 2005, MEED reported that Aramco had awarded five contracts worth more than $100m to expand and upgrade bulk plants across the kingdom.
