The contract to deliver the vessels has been awarded to Zamil Operations and Maintenance Company (Zomco).
As well as enhancing Aramco’s offshore capabilities, the Industrial Services Organization (ISO) which placed the order for Aramco, is also keen to boost the kingdom’s industrial manufacturing capability with the deal.
Four of the ships are to be built by Saudi shipbuilders at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.
The ISO has also revealed plans to establish a maritime academy in Dammam, training locals to develop a new workforce qualified to work at sea.
