
Algerias former oil minister Chakib Khelil and family face allegations of corruption
Algerian law-enforcement authorities have released international arrest warrants for nine people, including former oil minister, Chakib Khelil, on charges relating to alleged corruption.
The officials wife and two sons are among the other people wanted in conjunction with the allegations, which relate to a bribery scandal involving the Italian oil and gas contractor Saipem.
The allegations involve the payment of $256m of bribes in return for billions of dollars worth of contracting work being awarded to Saipem.
Khelils current whereabouts have not yet been established. While in office, the former oil minister was a close ally of Algerias President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
