Groups now have until 20 July to submit bids for Barwa City road contract

Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashgal) has extended the bid deadline to 20 July for a contract to build peripheral roads around its Barwa City development in Doha.

The original bid deadline for the project was 8 June. The contract has a bid bond of QR15m ($4.1M).

In 2007, Germany’s Bilfinger Berger was awarded the QR4.9bn contract to build the Barwa City residential development. The contract involves the construction of 6,000 residential properties and community facilities. The project covers a total area of 2.7 million square metres. US-based Aecom is the consultant.

The client is the local Barwa Real Estate Company.

The project is part of Qatar’s plan to invest $20bn on new roads and related drainage and infrastructure in the next five years.

Ashgal recently awarded a QR1.6bn contract to the local/Turkish joint venture of Yuksel Insaat and Midmac Contracting Company for the construction of package seven of the Doha Expressway.

The work involves the construction of the package seven part of the Doha Expressway, together with work on the second phase of the Salwa road (MEED 1:6:10).
