Saudi Maaden has awarded Atlas Copco two contracts worth a total more than $50m to supply 20 turbo compressors for a power generation application in Maaden's new plant outside of Jubail, Arab News has reported. The combined 2,400 MW power and desalination plant will provide power, steam and water for the aluminium smelter being constructed by Maaden. The aluminium plant, which will consist of an alumina refinery, aluminium smelter and roll mill, will have a capacity of 740 000 tonnes of aluminium and 1.8 million tonnes of alumina per year.
