Japanese companies plan to complete work in 2011

Bahrain Financial Harbour Holding Company has awarded a BD2.8m ($7.4m) contract for the construction of a 66kV substation to Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation.

Sumitomo will carry out the project in collaboration with Japan AE Power Systems Corporation, a joint venture of Hitachi, Fuji Electric and Meidensha. The companies are scheduled to complete the project in the first quarter of 2011.

Separately, Bahrain Financial Harbour Holding expects to award a BD1.4m contract covering civil, electrical and mechanical work for the substation soon.

The new substation will exclusively serve the $3bn Bahrain Financial Harbour complex. The Electricity & Water Authority will take over the substation once construction is complete.

Bahrain Financial Harbour will cover an area of 380,000 square metres on the Manama seafront. The complex includes 10 business, leisure and residential projects.
