Bahrain petrol bomb attack

03 October 2003
Six policemen were injured in a petrol bomb attack on 2 October, local press reported. 'A police patrol carrying 12 police guards came under attack when unknown assailants fired a molotov cocktail at the vehicle, causing serious injuries and burns to five of them - one is in critical condition,' said a Bahraini official. The incident took place in the town of Sitra, southeast of Manama. Authorities are investigating the attack

Bahrain has not suffered from noticeable political unrest since the 1990s, when a small number of Bahraini Shiites campaigned for political rights and reform. However, the country has drawn criticism from many Muslims for housing the US Navy's fifth fleet, which has played a central role in attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq.
