Entrant: Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco)

Project owner: Bapco

EPC contractor: Petra Solar

Description: As part of its commitment to protecting the environment, Bapco has embarked on the installation of 5MW peak of clean solar energy, distributed to the township of Awali, the Bapco refinery and the University of Bahrain. The Distributed Solar Energy Pilot Project is an initiative to explore renewable energy options in order to advance Bahrain’s energy independence and provide alternative sustainable energy solutions that will reduce emissions, conserve natural resources, drive economic growth and ensure future generations can enjoy the continued availability of energy. As part of the initiative, 20,835 smart solar energy modules were deployed, mainly on existing assets such as rooftops, carports, buildings and light poles. Bapco’s solar facility combines smart-grid technology modules with traditional solar panels to enable command and control of large distributed solar energy systems.
