Description: Bapco has successfully commissioned its new state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant, which will provide secondary treatment of refinery wastewater in order to meet the discharge limits set by Bahrains Supreme Council for the Environment. The project was implemented as part of Bapcos Environmental Strategic Plan at a total cost of $120m. It is based on four-stage membrane bioreactor technology on a scale not used before in any refinery for wastewater treatment worldwide. With this project, Bapco and Bahrain have put themselves on the world map for using innovative technologies in environmental conservation.
