Request comes during three-day visit by Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber al-Mubarak al-Sabah

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is planning to ask Kuwait for investments in its oil refinery sector worth $1bn, according to statements made by Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry.

The request is going to be made during a three-day visit by Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber al-Mubarak al-Sabah.

Sheikh Jaber is starting his visit to Bangladesh on 3 May 2016.

Hasina is also planning to discuss the liberalisation of Kuwait’s recruitment policy for Bangladeshi workers and increasing Bangladeshi imports during the visit.

Bangladesh is an important trade partner of Kuwait, importing large quantities of Kuwaiti oil and providing large quantities of migrant workers.

About 200,000 Bangladeshis are working in Kuwait.
