Bidders gear up for Borouge PMC

International companies are preparing to submit technical proposals to Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge)by 19 July for the contract to provide project management consultancy (PMC) services on the third-phase development of its Ruwais complex. Among the PMC contractors expected to bid for the post are Foster Wheeler, Jacobs Engineeringand Parsons Corporation, all US-based. The front-end engineering and design (FEED) package will not be part of the PMC contract and will be tendered separately.

A feasibility study for the phase 3 project will be completed in the first quarter of 2005. Phase 3 covers construction of a 1.4 million-tonne-a-year (t/y) ethane cracker with downstream units, to be completed in 2008/09. Work is due to be completed in early 2005 on phase 2 of the Borouge development programme, covering the debottlenecking of the existing 450,000 t/y of polyethylene (PE) capacity. Italy's Tecnimontis carrying out the estimated $40 million project, which will see PE capacity rise by 130,000 t/y (MEED 11:6:04).
