A feasibility study for the phase 3 project will be completed in the first quarter of 2005. Phase 3 covers construction of a 1.4 million-tonne-a-year (t/y) ethane cracker with downstream units, to be completed in 2008/09. Work is due to be completed in early 2005 on phase 2 of the Borouge development programme, covering the debottlenecking of the existing 450,000 t/y of polyethylene (PE) capacity. Italy’s Tecnimontis carrying out the estimated $40 million project, which will see PE capacity rise by 130,000 t/y (MEED 11:6:04).
