Bidders line up for Doha North STP

21 July 2006
Bidding is under way for the grassroots Doha North sewage treatment plant (STP) project. Seven international contractors are prequalified to bid by the 3 October deadline for the STP, which will be the largest in the state and will be located 20 kilometres northwest of Doha. The client is the Public Works Authority (Ashghal MEED 27:1:06).

Doha North will have a phase 1 capacity of 227,300 cubic metres a day and will be capable of
serving a population of 844,000. The plant will also have the
provision for future expansion to serve 1.1 million residents.

Ashghal will let the Doha North contract on a design and build and operation and maintenance (O&M) basis.

The 30-month design and build component will be followed by a 10-year O&M element. A contract award is expected in early 2007.

The consultant on the project is the UK's Hyder (MEED 17:2:06; 11:11:05).
