Bidding kicks off on Dubai airport expansion

The first major construction package has been issued for bid on the $2,500 million Dubai International Airport (DIA) expansion project. For AX 056, the earthworks and piling for Terminal 3, Concourse 2 and the car park, prequalified contractors have been given until 29 December to submit bids. The client is the Department of Civil Aviation (MEED 16:11:01, Cover Story).

The contract covers demolition and excavation works. It also involves the construction of diaphragm walls, dewatering, backfilling and the installation of tension piles.

A contract award is expected by mid-February. The entire package is scheduled to be completed in 21 months

DIA's expansion involves the construction of a new terminal, two new concourses, the upgrade of airfield facilities, and the expansion of the Dubai Cargo Village.

The consultants are Beirut-based Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners)and France's Aeroports de Paris.
