
Two groups, Belgium’s Jan De Nul with Turkey’s STFA, and Australia’s Gulf Leighton with Royal Boskalis Westminster of the Netherlands and the local Aljaber Engineering submitted prices for the whole project, which includes quay wall and civils construction work.
One other group, Belgium’s Dredging International, with the local Middle East Dredging Company, formerly known as Qatar Dredging Company, has submitted a price for the dredging works only.
A joint venture of Italy’s Grandi Lavori Fincosit (GLF) and Ballast Ham Dredging of the Netherlands, now part of Van Oord - also of the Netherlands - built the original facility in 2003 (MEED 7:12:01).
Gabbro rock, often known as black granite, is commonly used as aggregate in the production of cement.
