Bids in for Al-Gurm homes

02 June 2006

Local real estate developer ALDAR Properties has received bids from three companies for the residential component of its Al-Gurm project on the western edge of Abu Dhabi island. The bidders are the local/Lebanese Arabian Construction Company (ACC), Saudi Oger and the local/Belgian Six Construct Abu Dhabi (MEED 12:5:06).

Each of the 59 homes will have a private pool and jetty, and some will have a private beach. Nine of the homes will be situated on their own private islands. Completion is scheduled for January 2008.

Tenders for the hotel component, which is scheduled for completion three months later, are expected to be issued soon. The 161-room, five-star hotel will be managed by Singapore's Banyan Tree Group. It has been designed to complement the villa development and will be made up of chalets on individual islands and suites built around a central lagoon.

The local National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) has started work on the dredging package and Six Construct will assist with the rock work. The engineer of record is Canada's Cansult and the project manager is US-based Parsons International.
