Bids in for Alba power

Four companies submitted technical bids in early October for the contract to expand generating capacity at Aluminium Bahrain (Alba). The bidders are Germany's Siemens, Bechtel of the US, France's Alstomand South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company. Commercial offers are due on 10 November (MEED 2:8:02).

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract covers the installation of up to 850 MW of additional generating capacity at Alba. The power island will drive the plant's fifth potline, on which Bechtel has the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract. The UK's Mott MacDonaldis the consultant for the project, which is scheduled for commissioning in 2005 (MEED 26:7:02, Industry).
