Bids have been submitted for the two biggest packages on the project to build a new royal palace at Barka. Awards are expected by the end of August. The local/UK Carillion Alawiis low bidder at about RO 15.6 million ($40 million) for the main civils package on the estimated RO 25 million ($64.1 million) project, following the submission of bids on 20 July. Carillion's bid was fractionally lower than that of India's Larsen & Toubro, with the local Galfar Engineering & Contractingthird lowest at about RO 15.8 million ($40.5 million). Oman Shapoorji Constructionand Al-Turki Enterprises, both local, and Cyprus-based Joannou & Paraskevaidesalso priced the contract. Galfar is low bidder for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) work, worth RO 3 million-4 million ($7.7 million-10.3 million). The client on the project, known as villa number 1, is the Royal Court Affairs Ministry (MEED 18:6:04).
