Winning contractor to build academy near Outer Bypass road

Dubai Police has received bids from contractors for an estimated AED850m ($232m) contract to build a police training college.

The project, near Dubai’s Outer Bypass road, covers the construction of a main teaching building and other associated structures (MEED 3:9:09).

The building will replace the existing academy on Sheikh Zayed road, close to the fourth interchange opposite the Mall of the Emirates.

In 2008, Sama Dubai, a state-backed developer, said it planned to build a mixed-use residential development called Jumeirah Hills, on the site of the existing police academy.

As part of the project, Sama Dubai had planned to build the police academy at the new site. However, the developer put the Jumeirah Hills project on hold in November 2008, along with other developments.

Sama Dubai had selected the local Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises as its contractor on the project.

Dubai Police are now managing the development directly. The UAE’s Arenco is the consultant.
