Bids in for Fujairah naval base

Up to three companies are understood to have submitted bids by the 27 July deadline for the second package on the Fujairah naval base project. They are: Belgium's Six Construct; the local Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises,with STFA of Turkey; and the local Pivot Engineering & General Contracting Company.

Estimated to be worth AED 50 million ($14 million), the design-and-build contract covers the construction of a 600-metre quay wall and related works. The facilities will take 20 months to complete.

Six Construct is carrying out work for the first package of the project. Worth AED 75 million ($20 million), the contract includes the construction of two breakwaters with a total length of about two kilometres, and the dredging of 1.3 million cubic metres of material. Work on package 1 is due to be completed by the end of 2003.

The base is located between Khor Fakkan and the port of Fujairah. The client is the Directorate of Military Works, part of the Abu Dhabi-based General Headquarters (MEED 22:3:02).
