Bids in for new exhibition halls

03 March 2006

At least two companies have submitted bids for the main contract on the extension of Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre (DICEC). The bidders include the local/UK Al-Naboodah Laing O'Rourke and the local Khansaheb Civil Engineering. The eight-month project will add 15,000 square metres of exhibition space and increase the facility's current capacity by 30 per cent. The local Trans Gulf Electro-Mechanical has been awarded the main mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) package.

The UK's RMJM is the consultant. A redevelopment of the entire complex is also planned and a landmark tower is to be built next to Emirates Towers. The project will be developed over seven-10 years. The UK's Mace International is the project manager; the US' HOK prepared the masterplan. The client is Dubai World Trade Centre (MEED 10:2:06).
