Bids in for QP National Library contract

Technical and commercial bids were submitted on 2 May for the main contract on the Qatar National Library project. At least three out of the 10 international prequalifiers submitted design and build bids for the contract on the estimated $200 million-250 million project.

Qatar Petroleum (QP)is managing the project on behalf of the government (MEED 9:4:04).

The bidders are understood to include Japan's Taisei Corporation, Belgium's Six Constructand Germany's Strabag. Bidders were asked to submit prices for completing the contract in 24, 26 and 28 months.

The successful bidder will carry out the structure, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP), finishes and external works on the 117-metre-high building, to be located on Doha's corniche. The striking building will comprise three 18-metre-diameter cylindrical service cores, on top of which will sit the main library structure.

The post-construction project manager is the US' Turner International. The architect is Japan's Arato Isozaki.
