The technical bids were submitted on 23 August by South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries and a team of the local Arabian Bemco Contracting Company with Hanwha Engineering & Construction.
Once SEC has evaluated the technical proposals and received clarifications from the bidders, it will announce a deadline for commercial bids.
At least three other companies had been prequalified for the project, but did not bid. They were Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries; Marubeni Corporation, also of Japan; and China's Sepco 3 Electric Power Construction Corporation.
The Rabigh extension will have a capacity of 2,200-2,640MW (MEED 19:8:08).
