Bids in for refinery

Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) bids went in on 30 November for the estimated $400 million Ras Laffan condensate refinery project. Three international groups submitted technical and commercial bids for the contract, which involves building a 146,000-barrel-a-day refinery to process rising volumes of North field condensate (MEED 30:7:04).

The EPC bidders are: Foster Wheeler Italiana, with South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company; South Korea's LG Engineering & Construction; and Spain's Tecnicas Reunidas. The award of the 30-33 month contract is expected in March.

The client is a joint venture of Qatar Petroleum, France's Totaland the US' ExxonMobilCorporation.

Total has technical responsibility for the project, while the facility will be operated by Qatar Liquefied Gas Company (Qatargas), which along with Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company (RasGas)will provide the bulk of the condensate feedstock.
