The project entails dredging and reclamation of 16 million cubic metres and 13 million cubic metres of sandfill respectively from sites at Busaitin and west Hidd. The selected contractor will also install extensive shoreline protection belts at both sites.
The areas are earmarked for development into new townships to alleviate the chronic shortage of basic housing in Manama. The Works & Housing Ministry, which is the client, is expected to complete its technical evaluation of the bids by the beginning of March (MEED 3:1:03; 22:11:02).
