Bids in for township dredging

Seven companies bid on 4 February for the contract to dredge two sites close to Manama for major housing developments. The local Al-Ganah Contractingis low bidder at BD 24.9 million ($64 million). Quotes for the work ranged up to BD 39.1 million ($100 million).

The project entails dredging and reclamation of 16 million cubic metres and 13 million cubic metres of sandfill respectively from sites at Busaitin and west Hidd. The selected contractor will also install extensive shoreline protection belts at both sites.

The areas are earmarked for development into new townships to alleviate the chronic shortage of basic housing in Manama. The Works & Housing Ministry, which is the client, is expected to complete its technical evaluation of the bids by the beginning of March (MEED 3:1:03; 22:11:02).
