Bids in for two Raha marine packages

21 July 2006
Local real estate developer ALDAR Properties is evaluating bids from at least three companies for the marine works package at precinct A on its Raha beach development, as well as bids from two groups for precincts D, E, F and G. However, it has received no bids for two other marine packages covering precincts B and C (MEED 9:6:06).

The bidders for precinct A, which involves the construction of a three-kilometre-long diaphragm wall, include the local Middle East Foundations, France's Soletanche Bachy and VSL, part of France's Bouygues. The returned tenders for precinct's D, E, F and G are being evaluated. The tender also called for the construction of a conventional rubble and concrete block quay walls and the dredging of marine channels.

Contractors say that prequalifiers decided not to bid for the other packages as a result of their large size, tight construction schedule and existing volumes of work. ALDAR is addressing this issue by sourcing contractors on the international market. The UK's Maunsell is the consultant (MEED 31:3:06).
