Bids invited for new Emaar towers

Bids are due to be returned by 2 March for the contract to build the second batch of buildings on the Dubai Marina project. Known as 7WX, the design-and-build contract covers the construction of six towers of 25-40 storeys, a five-level concrete podium, two-level underground car park and associated works. The contract is estimated to be worth AED 500 million-550 million ($136 million-150 million) and will take about two years to complete.

Up to 15 companies are prequalified to bid for the contract, but not all are expected to participate in the tender. The prospective bidders include Al-Hamed Development & Construction, Arab Technical Construction Company (Arabtec), Arabian Construction Company (ACC), Emirates Contracting Company (ECC), Khansaheb Civil Engineering, Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises, United Engineering Company (UNEC), Al-Basti & Muktha and Al-Shafar General Transport & Contracting Company- all local, the local/Australian Nasa Multiplex, Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East) of South Africa, and Al-Naboodah Laing and Al-Futtaim Tarmac, both local/UK.

The project manager is the UK's Mace International; the client is local property developer Dubai Marina.

A team of Nasa Multiplex with Al-Futtaim Tarmac is carrying out work on the first batch of six towers on the Dubai Marina project under a AED 545 million ($149 million) contract (MEED 20:7:01; 15:6:01).
