Qatar Petroleum awards construction project to local contractor

Qatar’s Black Cat Engineering & Construction has won a QR400m ($110m) contract to build a gas pipeline network for Qatar Petroleum (QP).

The state-run energy company awarded the engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning contract on 30 August.

The contract covers the construction of gas pipelines ranging in size from 4 to 36 inches, running from a processing plant at the onshore Dukhan facility to consumer distribution network.

QP has asked Black Cat to decommission and demolish a number of existing pipelines.

The company started work on the project in early September. It has set a deadline of March 2012.

The sweet gas project involves pipelines that will carry gas rich in ethane.
