Iran could be about to enter a new era of sanctions that will make life difficult for oil companies, according to BP CEO Bob Dudley.

“We don’t work in Iran and I’m kind of glad we’re not there,” he said, speaking at the AIPN International Petroleum Summit.

“I do think the world may put those sanctions back on. I don’t know. It’s a dangerous world right now and we all have to be vigilant if something changes.

“We’ll always work within the sanctions, but it does make it difficult.”

Dudley’s comments come ahead of an announcement from President Donald Trump, who is preparing to decide whether the US will restore economic sanctions on Iran.

Trump is due to make a decision on sanctions by 12 May.
