CCC/Al-Habtoor lands deal to build island Landmark

A joint venture of Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC) and the local Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises has been awarded the contract to build the Landmark tower, the tallest building on Abu Dhabi island.

The mixed-use tower, which will primarily be residential, will be 330 metres high. To be located on the corniche, it will have about 70 floors and five basement levels.

In addition to apartments, offices and shops, it will house restaurants, a sky garden and penthouses.

The total gross internal floor area is 205,000 square metres.The CCC/Al-Habtoor venture beat competition from a team of South Korea's Samsung Corporation and the local Arabtec Construction to win the estimated AED 1,400 million ($381 million) contract. Constuction of the building should be completed by July 2010.

The client on Landmark is the Department of President's Affairs. The project manager is the UK's EC Harris (MEED 2:2:07).

Landmark tower is the second major building award in Abu Dhabi this year, after the Sky Towers project on Reem island. A third is expected soon, for the redevelopment of the Abu Dhabi central market (MEED 19:1:07).
