French contractor values deal at $40m
French technology company Cegelec Solutions & Services has won a $40m contract to design and build the control centre at the new Qatar Petrochemicals Company (Qapco) plastics plant at Mesaieed.
The French firm was awarded the contract by Germany’s Uhde, the main contractor on the scheme.
Uhde won the main $550m contract for engineering, procurement, construction and technology in June alongside Turkey’s Tefken Construction & Instillation. The firm is overseeing the construction of a 300,000 tonne a year (t/y) low density polyethylene plant at Mesaieed, Qapco’s third at the site (MEED 1:6:09).
Cegelec will build a blast-proof control centre at the plant and will also complete all necessary electrical installations at the building. The company completed the basic design of the control centre for Qapco in 2008.
The plant and the control building are scheduled for completion by the end of 2011.
