Contract for consultancy services to prepare for renewables expansion

Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) has signed a contract with Cesi Middle East, the Dubai branch of Italian Cesi, to ensure the readiness of Dubai’s transmission and distribution network for renewable energy.

Cesi will support Dewa on enhancing transmission and distribution, provide training for engineers and consult on improving the operation of the grid.

In January 2015, Dubai selected a developer for a 200MW photovoltaic solar plant at Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum Solar Park and increased its targets for renewable energy to provide 15 per cent of generating capacity by 2030.

Cesi is also supporting the grid-connected solar rooftop scheme. Dewa has issued regulations for net-metering of small-scale solar installations to encourage home-owners and business to invest in solar.
