25 well pads planned for Missan oil fields

State-owned China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) has issued a tender for the construction of numerous well pads at Missan oil field complex in the east of Iraq.

Issued on 3 June, contractors have until 22 June to submit their technical and commercial proposals for the scheme.

CNOOC is leading the development of the Missan oil complex, which covers three oil fields, Abu Ghraib, Buzurgan and Faqqa, which lie near the border with Iran.

The company’s 2013 reservoir development and drilling plan for the Missan field covers the construction of 25 well pads. Construction will be divided into three packages, with one for each field. Twelve well pads will be built at Abu Ghraib, 7 at Faqqa and 6 at the Buzurgan fields. Another 3 well pads are optional.

Construction is due to be completed by the end of the year.

CNOOC leads a consortium of Turkish Petroleum Overseas Company (TPAO) and state-owned Iraqi Drilling Company, which agreed in 2010 to increase production to 450,000 barrels a day (b/d) by 2017. Production currently stands at around 95,000 b/d.
