Academic and sporting projects tendered at Shuwaikh campus
The local Combined Group Contracting Company has won a KD29.49m ($102m) contract to expand laboratories at Kuwait University’s Shuwaikh campus university.
The contract was tendered by the Public Authority for Applied Education & Training (PAAET) and covers the construction, completion, operation and maintenance of laboratories, workshops and associated infrastructure for students and faculty of the university’s technology course (MEED 25:3:10).
The decision to award the deal was made during a 19 April meeting of the emirate’s Central Tenders Committee.
The project comprises three buildings: one for women, one for men and a central building that will contain additional laboratories and a library.
Only Kuwaiti companies were allowed to bid on the contract. Combined Group submitted the lowest price in a 7 February bid round.
Kuwaiti Manager Company was the second lowest bidder with an offer of KD29.97m ($104) and Mohammed al-Kharafi & Sons was third lowest bidder with an offer of KD30.2m ($105).
The expansion project is one of two contracts being tendered at PAAET’s Shuwaikh campus.
The other deal covers the construction and maintenance of a sports stadium and associated infrastructure. It is estimated to be worth KD16m ($55.5m). The bid deadline for the contract to build the stadium project is 13 June.
