The bank is the only Qatari lender that needs to boost capital to meet Basel three requirements

Commercial Bank of Qatar (CBQ) is the only Qatari bank that needs to raise capital to meet Basel three capital requirements, which should be in force in Qatar by the middle of 2014, according to Arqaam Capital’s equity research director Jaap Meijer.

Speaking at the MEED Qatar Banking Summit Meijer said that after studying the balance sheets of all local banks it had identified CBQ as the only one in need of a capital rise.

CBQ is understood to have appointed two banks to arrange a capital boosting bond issue earlier in 2013.
