Companies line up for Daura

03 October 2003
Eight international contractors are understood to have picked up tender documents for the contract to upgrade processing units at the Daura refinery, located close to Baghdad. The list includes three US contractors, along with companies from France and Italy. Prospective bidders have until 15 November to submit their proposals (MEED 26:9:03).

The project entails the replacement of a 10,000-barrel-a-day (b/d) reformer unit and a 13,000-b/d diesel hydro-desulphurisation unit at the refinery. Daura produces about 80,000 b/d of mostly middle distillates for the domestic market.

Midland Oil Company is the client for the upgrade. Daura was originally built by a US team of Foster Wheeler and Kellogg Brown & Root. The plant has capacity to refine up to 110,000 b/d of crude (MEED 4:7:03).
