Dubai company Condor Building Contracting to build retail and leisure community centre at the Dubailand project

Dubai Properties has appointed Dubai-based Condor Building Contracting to build a 20,000-square-metre retail and leisure community centre at its Mudon project in Dubailand.

The centre will offer a grocery, nursery, and medical clinic, as well as 14 leasable retail units including a cafe and family restaurant with outdoor seating. It will also include various outdoor facilities, such as a swimming pool, two tennis courts, a children’s playground and parking space for visitors.

The project is planned for completion by early 2015.

In March 2013, Dubai Properties Group awarded India’s Shapoorji Pallonji the contract to complete the phase one construction of the Mudon residential community, which entails the completion of 348 town houses.

Several contractors were working on the scheme before it was put on hold in 2008, including Dubai-based Arabtec Construction, which was working on a AED550m ($150m) contract to build 12 five-story residential buildings.

Beijing-based China State Construction Engineering Corporation was working on two building packages totalling AED245m. The local Wade Adams was working on the infrastructure.

The Mudon scheme was originally designed to provide housing for about 42,000 people and it will have five districts reflecting the architecture of Baghdad, Beirut, Cairo, Damascus and Marrakech.

The local Dewan Architect & Engineers was the consultant for the buildings. The US’ Aecom, was the infrastructure consultant. UK-based Mace International was the project manager.
