Samsung and Uhde submit competitive price for $1bn construction work

A consortium of South Korea’s Samsung Engineering and Germany’s Uhde submitted the lowest price for a $1bn deal to expand Abu Dhabi’s Ruwais Fertilisers Industries (Fertil) production site, according to contractors close to the deal.

“It has not been officially confirmed yet, but they have been named as the low bidder,” says the business development manager of a construction firm working in Abu Dhabi.

The consortium submitted bids along with Italian contractors, Tecnimont and Saipem, on 7 September.

A contract award is expected in October.

The contract covers the construction of a 2,000-tonne-a-day (t/d) ammonia plant and a 3,500-t/d urea train adjacent to Fertil’s existing complex in Ruwais.
