Bids from two international groups have been submitted for a major new contract to electrify Algeria's east-west railway line.
The proposals were submitted on 2 September by a UK/French team of Balfour Beatty and Cegelec and by a Spanish consortium of Elecnor, Cobra, Semi and Electren.
The scope of works covers the 25kV/50Hz electrification of several hundred kilometres of railway line.
The scheme is divided into two packages. Package East covers the Annaba-Bordj Bou Arreridj and Ramdane Djamel-Skikda lines. Package West covers the El-Affroun-Oran and Senia-Arzew lines.
The client, L'Agence nationale D’Etudes et de Suivi de la Realisation des Investissements Ferroviaires (ANESRIF), is expected to make an award soon, once technical evaluation is completed.
