Majid al-Futtaim is developing My City Centre Masdar and Al-Jazira City Centre in Abu Dhabi

The local Amana Steel Contracting has started work on the AED340m ($93m) My City Centre Masdar project in Abu Dhabi for Dubai developer Majid al-Futtaim (MAF).

Set to open in the second quarter of 2019, the mall will be MAF’s largest community mall in the UAE. It will have more than 77 stores covering 18,800 square metres of gross leasable area (GLA), including a 5,793 square metre Carrefour Hypermarket.

The mall has also been designed to meet the requirements of an Abu Dhabi’s Estidama Three Pearl rating, which is equivalent to the LEED Gold rating, for exceptional performance in energy and water conservation.

MAF is also evaluating bids from contractors for its AED1.4bn ($381m) City Centre Al-Jazira in Abu Dhabi.

The mall is being developed in partnership with Abu Dhabi’s Al-Jazira Sports & Cultural Club in the heart of Abu Dhabi, between Airport Road and Al-Muroor Road. The total leasable area is expected to be 80,500 sq m within a built-up area of 215,000 sq m.

The My City Centre Masdar and City Centre Al-Jazira are part of MAF’s announcement made in June 2016 to increase its total investment in the UAE by AED30bn by 2026, taking its total investment in the country to AED48bn.
