Consultants link up for Al-Reem infrastructure

Two groups of consultants have been appointed to design and manage the development of infrastructure on Al-Reem island, also known as Abu Shooum. The local Al-Reem Investmentshas appointed Germany's Drees & Sommeras the project manager for the infrastructure that will link the Shams development of Abu Dhabi-based Sorouh Real Estate Companywith another of Al-Reem island's real estate projects, being developed by Tamouh Investments.
For Shams Abu Dhabi, Sorouh has appointed the UK's Hyder Consultingas infrastructure design consultant. The UK's Halcrowwill act as a subconsultant for the marine and electrical works. Shams' masterplan includes more than 100 buildings ranging from three-70 storeys and offering a total of 22,000 residential units. The project will be developed in phases with the entire scheme scheduled for completion in 2011 (MEED 16:9:05).

Sorouh has set mid-November as the bid deadline for a dredging contract. The package calls for the dredging 3.5 million cubic metres of material, plus rock works. The UK's Maunsell Consultancy Servicesis the consultant (MEED 1:4:05).

An award is awaited at Tamouh for its infrastructure design consultant. Bids were submitted in August.
