Contrack wins Manama naval base work

Contrack International, the US affiliate of Egypt's Orascom Construction Industries (OCI), was awarded on 29 September the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) contract to expand the US naval base in Manama.

The $23 million contract calls for the construction of a new service support centre, known as US Naval Support Activity, at the base. It involves the construction of a multi-storey retail and dining support centre that will house the base ship store, retail and service outlets, a theatre, package store, post office, dining hall, bowling alley, gymnasium, pavilion, playing courts and administrative offices.

The facility will be constructed on pile foundations with a combination of concrete and steel superstructure. The contract also includes exterior landscaping, roads, utilities and parking (MEED 22:8:03).
