Contractors sign up for Jumeirah Golf estates treatment plant

The local Palm Water has awarded France’s Degremont with Belgium’s Besix the design and build contract for a 220,000-cubic-metre-a-day sewage treatment plant at Jumeirah Golf estates.

The sewerage treatment plant (STP) will be the largest using MBR technology. The plant will treat waste generated from 19 Nakheel, DMCC and Istithmar Leisure developments. The plant will begin operations in April 2008 and will be completed in early 2010.

The local office of KEO International Consultants is the technical consultant. Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank with Macquarie Bank is the financial consultant (MEED 25:5:07).

The project is the first of three projects due to be awarded by Palm Water in 2007, The other two are the International City STP and the Jafza utilities project which comprises of three major facilities - a desalination plant of 100,000 cubic metres a day capacity, a centralised STP with a capacity of 108,000 cubic metres a day, and an industrial wastewater plant with a capacity of 4,000 cubic metres per day.
