Contractors submit bids for Abu Dhabi Guggenheim

26 August 2014

Saadiyat Island will be home to several major museums

Contractors in Abu Dhabi submitted bids in early August for the contract to build the Guggenheim museum on Saadiyat Island.

The scope of work comprises concrete substructure, concrete superstructure, structural steelwork, timber structure/glazed cladding to the cones, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works, vertical transportation, specialist security installation, fit-out works and external works.

Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) is developing other museums on Saadiyat Island.

There are two frontrunners for the contract to build the Zayed National Museum. They are a joint venture of Belgium’s Six Construction, the local Dhabi Contracting, and the local Arabtec Construction. TDIC received bids in November 2013 for the deal.

The main construction contract includes the concrete superstructure, structural steelwork and specialist cladding, MEP, and the interior fit-out. The project has been delayed following a strategic review of future projects by the Abu Dhabi government in 2011.

In January 2013, TDIC awarded the main construction contract to build the Louvre Abu Dhabi museum on Saadiyat Island to a joint venture of Arabtec, Spain’s Constructora San Jose and Oger Abu Dhabi.
