Majid al-Futtaim retail centre will be built on the outskirts of Muscat
The UAEs Majid al-Futtaim (MAF) has received bids from at least five groups for the estimated $715m contract to build its Mall of Oman development on the outskirts of Muscat.
The bidders include:
- Consolidated Contractors Company (Lebanon)/Shapoorji Pallonji (India)
- Habtoor Leighton Group (UAE)/Galfar Engineering (local)
- Larsen & Toubro (India)
- Six Construction (Belgium)/Al-Turki (local)
- TAV (Turkey)
Located in the Bausher area, the scheme involves building a mall with 137,000 square metres of retail space for 350 outlets, a snow park, cinema, amusement area, a supermarket, and a 292-room hotel.
The project is the largest component of MAFs $1.3bn of planned investment in the sultanate.
As well as Mall of Oman, MAF is set to develop City Centre Sohar and My City Centre Sur, valued at $116.9m and $39m respectively.
In the UAE, MAF is close to awarding the contract to build its planned Al-Zahia Mall in Sharjah.
MAF received bids from contractors in July for the 30-month deal that involves building a three-level mall, known as Al-Zahia City Centre, on a 183,505-square-metre plot, with space for 400 shops.
Majid al-Futtaim reports first-half revenue growth

Majid al-Futtaim Group, the Dubai-headquartered conglomerate with a portfolio including shopping malls, retail and hospitality ventures, has recorded an11 per cent increase in its first-quarter group revenues.
The company, which continues to expand in the Middle East and Africa, and Central Asian regions, said revenues reached AED15.2bn ($4.1bn) for six-month period ending 30 June, which compares with AED13.7bn reported for the corresponding period in 2015. Read More
